In teeth with a non-vital pulp, because of an extensive carious lesion or trauma, it is possible to remove the tissue and nerves from the pulp. This will result in the dental pain to cease and also stop the spread of the inflammation to the bone. In the next dental appointment, the root canals will be disinfected and then sealed with a special material called guttapercha. In the last appointment, the tooth is going to be restored with a variety of techniques. Endodontic treatment is highly recommended because is giving that patient the opportunity to keep a tooth functional that otherwise should be extracted.
